The Meraga is a medium to large tree that can grow up to 30 m tall, often with a fluted or latticed trunk. Its wood is used for general construction and as firewood and the stems are used as pillars.

The Meraga is found naturally in undisturbed to slightly disturbed (open) mixed dipterocarp and swamp forests up to 900 m in altitude, usually on hillsides and ridges with sandy soils. In secondary forests, it is usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant. It occurs in Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and Borneo; its conservation status in Singapore is vulnerable.

This species was formerly known as Pertusadina eurhyncha.
