Based on Flora Malesiana (1978), the distribution of this species in Malesia was recorded as Malay Peninsula (Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Johore and Singapore). A common village tree in Kedah, it is also native to Singapore.

The single Singapore herbarium specimen collected by H.N. Ridley and cited by Ding Hou, is without a known location. As of February 2016, no other specimen of M. pentandra has been reported in our forests.
