Introduced to Singapore, the Snake Tree is native to Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and Peninsular Malaysia. It has an upright and columnar form, with pinnately compound leaves and white flowers with a tinge of pink on the lower petal that blooms in the evening and fall before dawn. Its fruit is a long dehiscent pod that vaguely resembles the shape of a snake. Thus, its common name, 'Snake Tree'.

Its specific epithet, fimbriatum, refers to the delicately fringed petals of the flowers.

This Heritage Tree was planted on 5 November 1937.
