This Sausage Tree was received from Honolulu on 13 May 1931 and planted on 19 October 1931 in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It produced sausage-shaped fruits.

In its native distribution of Tropical Africa, this tree is sacred to many African communities. There is a practice of burying the fruit to symbolise the body of a lost person believed to be dead. Also, every part of the tree can be used in herbal medicine.
