The Horse Mango is a large tree that can grow up to 40 m in height. Though critically endangered in Singapore, the tree can be found in Thailand, Vietnam, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, and Borneo. The crown is dense and dome shaped. The trunk is columnar, without buttresses. The bark is light brown in colour and exudes irritant whitish sap.

The leaves are large, stiff and leathery. The reddish-pink flowers occur in upright panicles near branch tips. The fruits are yellowish green with brown lenticels, and the skin is about 5mm thick. The flesh colour ranges from pale orange to yellow. They are fibrous and juicy with a strong smell of turpentine.
