Native to Singapore, the Seashore Mangosteen is a small to medium-sized tree grows up to 30 metres in height, with a straight trunk and dense branching. It produces white latex, as do several other trees in its family. Its flowers are white and grow in clusters of one to three. The fruits have a smooth, pinkish-red skin, and their interior closely resembles that of a mangosteen, though with a yellowish pulp.

The fruit is aromatic but the flesh is sour. The leaves and roots are traditionally used to relieve itching. This specimen is very large for its size and could have been here for more than 40 years.

This species was previously known as Garcinia hombroniana.
