The Sparrows' Mango is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 25 m in height, with a compact crown of upright leaves. Its bark is pinkish brown with a red interior, smooth in texture, and oozes a harmless greyish gum when cut. The young leaves emerge in a distinctive shade of pink. Flowers grow in panicles towards the ends of the branches and are white to cream in colour, typically bearing five to six petals. The fruits are small and globular, measuring about 1 cm in diameter, and ripen to a reddish to purple-black colour. While they bear a resemblance to miniature mangoes, the fruits are not edible.

One of the common names for this species is 'Otak Udang', which literally means "prawn's brain" in Malay.

This Heritage Tree had a girth of 2.1 m when measured in 2003, and 2.28 m in 2012.
