The Leban is an evergreen tree that can reach up 15 m in height. It has pale grey to yellowish-brown bark, sometimes shallowly fissured, palmately-compound leaves with 3 - 5 leaflets, and bluish-white to purplish flowers. Its fruit is a drupe (a berry with single hard seed) about 7-13mm in diameter. It was formerly known as Vitex arborea.

In traditional medicine, a decoction of the tree bark is used to cure stomachaches. Its leaves can also be made into a poultice and used in the treatment of fevers and wounds.
